Because I’m a Girl

There are many stigmas that follow women throughout their entire lives.
As little girls we are taught about princesses and how if they play nice and be patient the prince will eventually track them down and 'rescue' them from their horrible step-mother.

I was 12 years old when my Mother moved out. My Father just assumed I would step into the role of housekeeper, cook and eventually nanny to my younger brother. That was a lot of responsibility to put on a 12 year old. My schoolwork suffered greatly because of it and I almost didn't graduate. And if I had been a boy, the situation would have differed greatly.

We, as girls, are programmed to spend every waking moment taking care of everyone around us, neglecting our own needs.

There are other things we are not how to stand up for ourselves. How to take care of ourselves first. And how, deep down we are all alike. And we can be there for each other. Instead of seeing each other as competition...a sisterhood can warm your heart and fill your soul.

I don't always agree with all of the feminism issues in the media. Some people take it to extremes. But every woman will have different views. Feminism is simply about equality – equality for women, men and people of all gender identities. Achieving gender equality means that everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

This year's theme for International Women's Day is #MyFeminism, inspired by the role feminism continues to play in shaping Canada and countries around the world.
This March 4th, I will be attending the 'Perth Women's Health & Wellness Event' here in beautiful heritage Perth. To support and honour the International Women's' Day of March- The aim of this local event is to bring awareness to the Womens' Health & Wellness professionals that work right here in our community- this is a FREE DROP-IN event, allowing women to meet & mingle, listen & learn more about women's physical and mental health. All Donations will support the Lanark County Interval House. As the only shelter and dedicated support service in Lanark County for victims of woman abuse, LCIH offers not only a 24-hour Help Line and Emergency Shelter but also extensive Outreach Programs for women and children.

I am thrilled to be apart of such a powerful movement, helping women get their lives back. This will be my second year attending. I will be there offering 15 min treatments of Foot Reflexology and Indian Head Massage. Not all of us live busy, hectic lives...but that doesn't mean we don't carry stress in our bodies. I do my best during my treatments to give loving, positive thoughts to all my clients. To get away, even for a short time from whatever may be causing them stress.

Both Reflexology and Indian Head Massage reduce stress in the body and increase blood-flow & circulation throughout. Click here to view health benefits of Indian Head Massage and Reflexology.
