I used to cut my own hair. I’m very Scottish with my money, as you may know. But if I cut my own hair, I miss out on the shampoo & scalp massage. And THAT is my favourite part! I have always thought I would pay someone to just massage my scalp all day long. This was my inspiration for my new venture.
You may have been asking yourself over the past couple months…’Where is Melinda?’ ‘What has she been up to?’
Well, as of 2 weeks ago, I am now a certified Indian Head Massage Therapist. Now you may be asking yourself…’What is Indian Head Massage?’
I’m glad you asked. Indian Head Massage (IHM) has been practiced in India for thousands of years, originally used to keep long, thick hair in healthy condition. It only involved massage of the head and hair. However, the modern Indian Head Massage includes the upper back, shoulders, neck, upper arms, scalp & face.
IHM is a technique which manipulates soft tissues in the neck, shoulders, head & scalp. The upper part of the body is particularly vulnerable to stress and poor posture, tension often accumulates in the neck, back, shoulders & head. Massaging these areas has a very potent effect, de-stressing the entire body. The massage therapist (namely Me), uses a range of different massage pressures and rhythms. Indian Head Massage is a complementary therapy, holistic, relaxing & revitalizing.
I am thrilled to be adding Indian Head Massage to my relaxation toolbox. As you know I already offer Reflexology to my clients, which is the application of pressure to accu-points on the feet. The purpose is to break down deposits that have formed beneath the surface of the skin and allow free flow of circulation, blood and energy. It is also stress-relieving and very relaxing. Most of my clients fall asleep during the Reflexology sessions.
If you ask people which spot on their body they feel stress in the most…chances are you will hear ‘feet’, ‘head’, ‘neck’, ‘shoulders’…Now I am able to help people literally ‘from head to toe’.
I have recently begun learning aromatherapy and have created my own blends of essential oils which I use for massage, reflexology, diffusion in my home, pillow spray and bath oils. There are essential oils which can help with stress, mood lifting, allergies, energizing, calming for relaxing sleep…and the list goes on and on. Goose and I have been sleeping much better since I’ve been spraying a blend of lavender, fir balsam & bergamot onto our pillows.
The massage blend of essential oils (which the client picks) is used for application to your neck, shoulders, upper back & upper arms. Then it is also poured over and massaged into your hair. Add in soft music and dim lighting…it is very relaxing and not only for the client.
